Zulfiqar Mirza urges army for curbing terrorists in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh`s former home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza has ruled out any possibility of reconciliation with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
“The MQM is a party of blackmailers and operates through Interior Minister Rehman Malik, a born liar and an associate of those who want to dismember Pakistan,” he said, suggesting that the army should take action against the MQM without removing the government.
Addressing massive rally at Gakhar Phatak after travelling by road from Badin at Friday, he spoke about “the extortionist partisans of Altaf Hussain, enemies of Pakistan and those seeking to dismantle Pakistan”.
He asked the people attending the rally to pledge to support him and the armed forces in his struggle for the rights of Sindh and to protect Pakistan. He appealed to the people to strengthen the hands of President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He challenged Mr Hussain to come to Pakistan and said he was prepared to hold a debate with him on any issue at `Nine Zero`, the MQM headquarters. But, he said, he feared for the life of Afaq Ahmad who was a person with a sense of honour.
He demanded immediate removal of Governor Ishratul Ibad and said that he and Farooq Sattar were exploiting innocent people of Karachi to send money to London for the `luxuries` of MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
Dr Mirza advised TV channels and cable operators not to be afraid of terrorists with whom they had always sided and decide now to side with the righteous people and the truth.
“I have now dedicated my life and committed to sacrifice all my assets and belongings for the sake of Sindh,” he said.
Dr Mirza said now when he was facing a difficult time, his friends among MPAs, MNAs and senators were avoiding even to receive his phone calls. But he said he did not care because millions of his well-wishers in Sindh were with him.
He saluted the courageous people of Lyari for their support and announced that after today if any oppressed person was killed his body would not be lifted without five bodies of terrorists.
He said Urdu-speaking people were “our brothers” and even they had not been spared as hundreds of them, from Azim Tariq to Badar Iqbal, had been killed by the MQM for speaking the truth.
Dr Mirza challenged terrorists to face him because he would be passing through the heart of Karachi while going to Lyari.
He said people of Sindh had welcomed Urdu-speaking people with open arms but today the MQM was asking the real heirs to leave Karachi and Hyderabad.
He said excesses with the people of Sindh would not be tolerated and a movement would be launched against those interfering in the affairs of Sindh, including federal ministers Rehman Malik and Babar Awan and Governor Ibad.
LYARI: Addressing a public meeting in Lyari at night, Dr Mirza said if the government could not take any action, “we will pin hopes on the army”.
He said he would like to tell ISI chief Gen Shuja Pasha that whatever he had said was true. He said Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Kayani, Gen Pasha and the Karachi corps commander should demonstrate patriotism.
He asked the people to support the army if it came to set the house in order.
Dr Mirza appealed to the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice of target killings in Karachi.
He said he had started speaking the truth to protect the honour of mothers, sisters and daughters and had issued about 300,000 arms licences to `people of honour` These licences had not been issued for celebratory firing in marriages, he said.
He said the interior minister used to misguide the rulers and warn them that the army and ISI were behind the MQM and if the arrested killers were not released the PPP government would be dissolved and the party would not be able to come to power for the next 15 years.
Responding to a remark of the interior minister that he had provided security for Dr Mirza, he said: “I don`t need his security.”
“I have a lot of things to disclose. If the MQM wants to silense me it should shoot me, otherwise I will keep leaking the information intermittently,” he said.
But he warned: “The funeral of Zulfikar Mirza will not be only of me, but there will be 50 other funerals.”
Dr Mirza appealed to Shia ulema to stop extending support to the MQM and invited Haider Abbas Rizvi to join him in the name of Hussainiat.
After the meeting, some local youths encircled the van of a TV channel, deflated its tyres and harassed the driver. They also reportedly roughed up the Geo TV staff who tried to stop them from torching the vehicle.
